“It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”
Jaymes (or as some know him, “Sugar Bear”) started at the Rose & Thistle in July 2016. Born in San Jose, California and raised in Sacramento, he made the noble move up north to Portland in 2011. The quote above is from his favorite read, Freedom from the Known by Krishnamurti. “Don't sweat the small shit,” is the advice he would give his 15-year-old self. Though he would probably concede that the only small stuff he sweats is his fine wire-wrapped jewelry. His dreams of travel would take him to Greece where, in said dreams, he would dine with Che Guevara, Jim Carrey, and Terence McKenna. One of the highlights of working at “the Rat” includes having befriended customers on New Year's Eve (we have such great customers!). His favorite food is pho, so stop by to let him know your favorite pho spot in Portland! (Photo: Jaymes just got this geode from his niece!)
